Who would have thought that 9 points would have been middle ground and that 7 points was just enough to be safe from paying in?
Below are a few commonalities for losing weight and keeping it off:
1. Portions – limit your portions; try to cut back on the amount of food you eat at each sitting.
2. Eat slow – allow your stomach to fill up and stop before you are full.
3. Limit the snacking – although 6 small meals a day is better than 3 larger meals, try to limit the amount of unnecessary snacking.
4. Break the habit - don’t eat or drink (diet coke) to fill time; instead; drink a glass of water.
5. Eat healthier – maintaining a balanced diet is essential for keeping the weight off.
6. Exercise - while this competition requires a minimum of 30 minutes, the golden rule is: if you want to lose weight, you must burn more than what you are putting in.

Yeah us! Keep up the great work, everyone!
I've finally turned a corner - I'm eating better and LESS as well as getting exercise each day. Sometimes 10,000 steps, sometimes a vigorous walk (3.3 miles one day), sometimes some sweaty boxing for an hour with our new Wii. I lost one pound at the end of week one, and I'm hoping for 3 during week 2.
Good luck everyone!!!
Heidi
Hey Tommy - I heard you found a good website to help you eat better. Would you want to share that with the group? I have gotten all of my exercise points so far for the week, but I haven't been eating the best. I have to keep working on that. I have been running on the treadmill though, which is not easy for me, so hopefully I am burning more calories. I am excited to see how many points everyone gets this week. Stay warm!
Krissy
As Krissy said, I (actually Heidi) found a website to track your calories. There are probably hundreds of them out there but this is the one we chose.
To start you have to enter your vital stats, your goal weight and date. Based on that it'll tell you how many calories you have to stick to to reach your goal by that date.
You can enter all of the food you eat throughout the day, as well as exercise (it takes your exercise and adjusts your calories burned). It's really helped me to eat less. I had no idea how many calories I ate! It said for me to maintain my current weight (which of course is not what I want to do) I would have to consume about 2,500 calories per day. It also told me to reach my goal wight by the end of this contest I have to eat around 1,900 per day. That's quite a drop! Because of the awareness i've gained with this site I've managed to keep my total calories per day under 1,500 two days in a row.
Not only does it track your calories and exercise, it also gives you a letter grade on the nutritional level of your diet. I've gone from a C- at the beginning of the week to an A- so far today!
I hope you find this as helpful as I do.
