WEEK TWELVE RESULTS

Hello everybody. Sorry about the delay in getting the results posted. As Jon "No H in his Name" Stodola wrote in an email earlier this week you all did an awesome job closing out the competition. You can see from the graphs below the strong finish we had. We ended by improving our PpPpW metric each of the last 3 weeks. That enabled this group to put up the best ever cumulative PpPpW score for a 12 week period. Congratulations!!!

One last measure of the great job everyone did is the total amount of weight that was lost. As a group we lost 151 pounds. That is the equivilent of creating a calorie difficiency of more than a half a million calories over the competition (528,500 to be exact) via eating less or exercising more. On average each person had a calorie difficiency of 2447 calorie on their diets each week. That is truly amazing when you consider the USDA recommended caloric intake for a 200 pound man per day is 2400 calories (its like we all stopped eating 1 day out of the week).

We slightly bumped up our points per person from last week (led by Tom’s 10 point smack down); that is a real achievement this late in the competition. We are doing really well as a group and everyone should feel good about the accomplishments so far.

WEEK TEN RESULTS

Another good week; we set another all time high for week 10 with 5.1 points per person. There we 5 people reporting 7 or more points this week; I am truly impressed with the commitment we have all made fitness and diet. Combined with 9 pounds lost and it was another awesome weekly performance. We are set up in good position to finish the competition with the best point per person total ever; however, it is not a guarantee so let’s keep the focus for 2 more weeks (really about 8 days as I post this set of results).

We are 75% of the way through the competition so keep up the good work (we have the best ever performance as a group well in our sites).

Week 8 results have been updated as well and you will notice we actually had a 2.2% improvement between week 7 and week 8.

WEEK EIGHT RESULTS

Let me start this post with a hearty “YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!!” shout out. Another week with 5.1 points per person (and that is even with one missing report). That is fantastic; plus we had a phenomenal week for weight loss (and I realize part of that is due to a couple weeks of weight loss being reported in one week). As a group we appear to be on track to blowing away the best results achieved in this competition in the last year plus. At this time (Friday night 3/5/2010) we have 3 weeks left; so let’s keep up the good work and see if we can take the “Gold Medal Spot” on the Weight Loss/Healthy Living Challenge Podium.

WEEK SEVEN RESULTS

Hello everybody. Week 7 results are in and we all did another great job. 5.1 Points per Person last week. That is exactly the same score we had in week 6 (I don’t think we have ever done that in the past; given that we were slightly down in pounds lost for the week I think that shows the great commitment you all are making to getting points through exercise). Keep up the good work.

WEEK SIX RESULTS

Week 6 is in the book and we have reached the half way point (technically it is Thursday night and almost the end of week 7 but I digress). We did a good job this past week and are in position to, with a strong second half, have the best performance to date of any contest. You will notice from past data that the second half trend is downward in terms of Points per Person per Week (shifting from scores in the 5 PpPpW to 4 and even 3 PpPpW). If we can maintain the commitment to working out I think we can set the new mark for overall competition performance.

I have included a half way point total for all competitors so you can see how the competition is stacking up.

WEEK FOUR RESULTS ARE IN

Happy Super Bowl everybody! Week 4 results are posted below with updated plots. I will update the data once everyone has reported week 4 results. Congratulations to Sue or Drew Boxrud one of them answered last weeks inagural trivia question correctly (not sure who so please let me know who gets credited with the correct answer).

I have included one more plot that shows the total weight we have lost as a group by week. We are a third of the way through the competition and we've had a bit of a downward trend (which has been typical in past competitions as well so no worries) so lets see if we can refocus and gear up to make a strong second half push.

LIKE A BOLT FROM THE BLUE; WEEK THREE RESULTS HAVE ARRIVED!

Hello everybody! We are officially one quarter of the way through the competition. I have included updated results and charts for week 3. Additionally, I have added a new section on health trivia. Every week a question is included the first person (and only the first person) to answer correctly by posting a comment to the blog will get $1 off their entry fee to this fitness competition. Good luck and let's see who the "Health Knowledge Smarty Pants" are.

For Week 3 we averaged 5.8 points per person. That is down 9.6% compared to Week 2; however, that score is better than 2 of the last 3 competitions. Historically Weeks 4 and 5 have had pretty substantial drop offs as we near the mid-point of the competition. Let's see if we can stop the points slide and get our average back up to at least 6 points per person.

Week 3 Results:
John - 9
Dan - 9
Drew - 8
Melissa E. - 8
Mary - 7
Tom - 7
Sue - 7
Jon - 7
Karen - 7
Don - 6
Christel - 6
Joe - 4
Laura - 4
Mary Jo - 4
Heidi - 4
Nancy - 3 (Owes $1.00)
Melissa B. - 2 (Owes $2.50)
Linda - 2 (Owes $2.50)

Week 3 Health Trivia Question:
This week is a two part question; you must get BOTH answers correct to get credit.

According to the USDA; how many cups of vegetables should men ages 19 to 50 consume daily? How many cups of vegetables should women ages 19 to 50 consume daily?

DING!....WEEK TWO RESULTS ARE DONE!

Hello everybody; John E. here again with another weekly posting. As a group we had another good week. Congratulations to Tom who layed the smack down on exercise this week and turned in an impressive 10 point week.

I have included an additional chart this week (Hurrah for data!) and a Data Analysis section for your reading enjoyment.

Week 2 Results:
Tom - 10
John E. - 9
Heidi - 9
Karen - 8
Mary - 7
Sue - 7
Drew - 7
Melissa E. - 7
Joe - 7
Nancy - 7
Mary Jo - 6
Dan - 5
Laura - 5
Melissa B. - 5
Jon - 4 (owes $1.50)
Don - 4 (owes $1.50)
Christel - 4 (owes $1.50)
Linda - 4 (owes $1.50)

Data Analysis
You will notice from the Points Per Person by Week (PpPbW) chart that our group has achieved two firsts in the competition: we had the highest Points per Person per Week score of any second week AND we increased our points per person score from week one to week two (just barely but it was an increase). When examining the data more closely it reveals the increased commitment the group had to exercise in week two. In week one 78 of our total of 114 points were from exercise; in week two 92 of our total of 115 points were from exercise; that's almost an extra day of exercise for each person in the group. Click on the chart to see a higher resolution image.

The second chart included highlights the groups second accomplishment (increasing points per person from week one to week two). The data in this chart represents the percentage change from week to week of the groups points per person score. You will notice in all previous competitions there was a decrease from week one to week two with the exception of this competition. Great job and keep up the focus on exercise in week three. Click on the chart to see a higher resolution image.

Nancy - 3 (owes $1.50)
Heidi - 0 (owes $3.00)

For those of you who don't know me I am an engineer and have a strange love for data. My geek nature led me to record and plot all three competitions from 2009 (I used points earned per week per person to allow comparisons between competitions). I will be including this data (clicking on the chart will provide a higher resolution image) in the weekly updates so we can see how we are doing versus previous competitions and see if we can better our past performance.

The first competition of 2009 is the blue column, the second competition of 2009 is the red column, the third competition of 2009 is the green column. Our current competition (1st of 2010) is the purple column. We have started out inline with past competitions lets keep it going.
